At Vantage Trailers, we get hundreds of questions regarding trailers. Because we do a thorough walkthrough with our customers in their new trailers, we answer many of these questions before they leave our yard. Even so, there are some common questions that come up again and again. Here is our list of fifteen questions we get asked most often by new living quarter horse trailer owners. We also leave a laminated printout of this list in every new LQ trailer we sell.
1. MY FURNACE AND AC ARE BOTH RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME!
Your furnace needs to be initialized or reset. Set thermostat to ‘Auto,’ then press ‘Mode’ (or ‘Menu’) button at the same time as the ‘UP’ button and hold for 3 seconds. You will see 2 lines across the screen. Your furnace should now work properly (see owner’s manual for more detail).
2. MY HOT WATER STAYS HOT FOR LESS THAN A MINUTE!
Your bypass valve is open. Close the valve between the blue and red hoses on the water heater in the bathroom (see owner’s manual for more detail).
3. MY BATTERIES AREN’T CHARGING WHEN PLUGGED IN OR DRIVING!
Turn your master switch to ‘ON’ position. Remember, the charge while driving is a very slow trickle charge, so be sure to charge your batteries with power cord completely before use. Another option is to add a solar system to keep the batteries topped up at all times.
4. I HAVE UNEVEN WEAR ON MY TIRES!
Take your trailer to an axle alignment shop to straighten and align. Trailer axles can bend slightly when taking a sharp turn. This is why it is best to turn as wide as space will allow.
5. ONE JACK DOESN’T COME DOWN!
Some jacks are equalizer jacks, so they work one at a time. Extend first jack until it touches the ground. The pressure stops this leg and the second jack comes down until it touches the ground. When both jacks are on the ground, they lift the trailer together – evenly. The jacks retract one at a time as well.
6. MY COOKTOP WON’T LIGHT!
Make sure your propane tank is in ‘open’ position. Your cooktop does not have a pilot light, so you will need a lighter each time to light it.
7. HOW DO I GET MY OUTSIDE SPEAKERS TO GO ON?
On most models, turn to Zone B and turn volume up. On other models use ‘Fade’ or ‘Left’ or ‘Right’ to change speakers.
8. MY TOILET SENSOR KEEPS SAYING IT’S FULL, EVEN WHEN I JUST EMPTIED IT!
Be sure to use only RV toilet tissue. Regular toilet paper does not disintegrate as quickly and can get hung up on the sensors which makes them read ‘FULL’. Adding proper chemicals will help the disintegrating process. Fill tank with water and chemical, leave for 12-24 hours – then empty tank. Repeat if necessary.
9. MY 120 V PLUGINS AREN’T WORKING!
You most likely tripped the breaker on the GFI plug, which will blow all the plugins in the trailer. Press the red button on your GFI plug (usually in the bathroom) to reset. All plugins are wired together with this one breaker. Ensure your trailer is plugged into 120 Volt electricity.
10. MY FANTASTIC FAN ISN’T WORKING!
Check your fuse as the fan sometimes gets a bit stiff and will blow the fuse.
11. HOW DO I SET THE TEMPERATURE IN MY FRIDGE?
The back of the fridge fins has a white, plastic sliding control. Up is colder and down is less cold.
12. MY FRIDGE LIGHT WON’T GO ON!
There is a switch at the top of the fridge which turns the fridge on or off. The light only works when fridge is on.
13. MY FRIDGE DOESN’T WORK!
You may not have enough amps (battery is too low) Either boost your battery or plug trailer into 120 Volt electricity
14. TV & AC DON’T WORK!
Both need 120 Volts to work, so they need either a generator or electricity.
15. NOTHING HERE SOLVED MY ISSUE! WHAT DO I DO NOW WITH MY LIVING QUARTER HORSE TRAILER REPAIRS?
If nothing here solved the issue you’re experiencing in your LQ, we recommend you get in touch with our service department. They should be able to help you out, and if they can’t, they’ll know someone who can!
